It’s hard to go wrong with the PSE Fang. With plenty of power and performance to match, the Fang is a great crossbow for the money.

If you're looking for a crossbow to get started with or just an inexpensive bow to hunt with, keep reading for a closer look at the PSE Fang.

Is It Worth Your Money?

The PSE Fang is definitely worth a look if you're in the market for a solidly performing crossbow that won't break the bank.

For a price that's more than manageable, buyers get a crossbow with more than enough power to hunt with, an adequate scope, arrows, and cocking device. It's everything a new shooter needs to get started and a useful package for an experienced shooter.

Although it's not the flashiest bow on the market, the Fang is a great hunting tool that's made to get the job done.

A Closer Look at the PSE Fang

PSE has been making bows and crossbows for nearly 50 years. As the America’s largest manufacturer of archery equipment, they’ve helped pioneer the advancement of compound bows and crossbows. From simple, recurve bows to top of the line compound crossbows, PSE makes it all.

Although the Fang comes in at the lower end of the budget spectrum, it’s far from a budget crossbow. This bow has plenty of power for big game animals, good accuracy, and a solid set of features.

Features

The PSE Fang is made for hunting. The all new stock design is shorter and more compact, making this crossbow easier to maneuver in tight places like a hunting blind or the woods.

Power is solid with the Fang. 350 feet per second is enough power to take just about any form of large game.

The composite stock is designed with ergonomics in mind and has been recently updated to improve maneuverability in the field. A camo covering help the bow blend in.

While it's not a name brand model, the included 4x32 scope helps shooters see better in low light and is a good power for crossbow hunting. A standard reticle and clear mil dots make target acquisition easy.

Ease of Use & Reliability

Given PSE's track record of building quality products, it's no surprise that the Fang is a well-built crossbow. With a camo, composite stock and composite limbs, this bow is made to last and hold up well in the ever-changing conditions often found in the woods.

The included cocking rope makes operation easy and eliminates the need to pick up another accessory. A padded stirrup also makes cocking and loading this crossbow that much easier.

Cost

Coming in at around $300, the Fang is a great buy. While it doesn't necessarily offer buyers anything particularly innovative, this bow has plenty of power and good accuracy. As a simple, affordable hunting crossbow, the Fang truly excels. The accessories that come with this bow—including the scope and rope cocking device—only add to its value.

Who Is This For?

The PSE Fang is a crossbow for hunters. While just about all crossbows are made for hunting, the Fang is a simple bow with a simple purpose. Rather than tacking on extra features with little purpose, the Fang gives hunters an effective platform with plenty of speed and power to get the job done.

There’s also a lot of appeal for first time crossbow buyers. The Fang is, after all, affordable. But, it’s not really a beginner’s bow either. Its power and design make it a good fit for anyone looking to pick up their first bow without buying something that’s lacking in the feature department.

Our Opinion

The Fang is a good crossbow. It’s the sort of bow that gets the job done without adding a lot of extra features. And for many buyers, that’s all that’s necessary.

If you’re looking for a little more in the performance or feature department, you’ll need to look elsewhere. But, you’ll also likely end up spending quite a bit more.

Though the PSE Fang may not be the most powerful or feature rich crossbow on the market, it’s a good performer that will be more than adequate next deer season.

Other Options Worth Looking At

Centerpoint Sniper 370

The Fang is a great crossbow for the money, but there are plenty of other options in this price range.

Anyone shopping for a hunting crossbow in the $300 range should seriously consider the Barnett Whitetail Hunter. The Whitetail Hunter is lightweight at just over six pounds and puts out power similar to that of the Fang with arrow speeds of up to 380 feet per second and kinetic energy of over 120 foot pounds.

If you’d like something a bit more feature-rich and at a slightly lower budget, the CenterPoint Sniper 370 is worth a look.

With arrow speeds of up to 370 feet per second and a draw weight of 185 pounds, the Sniper 370 is also similar in power to the Fang. But, an adjustable AR-style stock makes this bow a bit more interesting. The pistol grip can also be swapped out.

Despite the competition, the PSE Fang is still a solid choice for anyone looking for a reliable, inexpensive hunting crossbow.
