Cons:

Even though this is a muzzle brake, it offers compensation and flash suppression. The compensation is excellent. You can feel the muzzle brake pressing the muzzle down when you shoot.
However, the flash suppression is just okay. But, the prongs align to keep the flash from obscuring your field of view.
The gas ports on this model are also aligned to reduce your dust signature when firing from the prone and kneeling. So, the muzzle flash might be bright. But, your dust signature will be low.
In terms of recoil reduction, this muzzle device is excellent.
It produces flat, (relatively) soft recoil. The recoil reduction makes it easy to keep your rifle level during rapid or even full-auto fire.
This model is also fairly light. It weighs just 2.24 ounces. So, it won’t make your gun front heavy or unwieldy.
And, it mounts easily with a crush washer or with an indexing pin.

2. Tapco Weapons Accessories AK-47 Slant Muzzle Brake
Key Specs:
- For Gun Type:
Rifle
- Fabric/Material:
Steel
- Color:
Black
Pros:
- Classic looks.
- Can be installed for left or right-handed shooters.
- Offers decent compensation.

Tapco may not have the greatest reputation right now. However, a slant muzzle brake is hard to get wrong. And, the Tapco Weapons Accessories AK-47 Slant Muzzle Brake meets all the criteria for a super affordable muzzle brake.
This muzzle brake retains the classic look of the original AK-47 slant muzzle brake. So, if you’re trying to keep your AK looking original, this will do the trick.
But, it’s actually a tad better than the original slant muzzle brake. The original AK-47 muzzle brake was designed for right-handed shooters. So, it pushed the muzzle down and to the right.
This muzzle brake has indexing pin notches on both sides. Which means it can be timed for left or right-handed shooters. Lefties rejoice!
Even though this is a muzzle brake, it offers much better compensation than recoil reduction.
The gas redirection does a decent job of keeping your muzzle flat. But, the recoil is only a bit better than a plain muzzle. However, it is better than a plain muzzle.
The design does a good job of reducing your dust signature, though. So, you won’t get so much dirt in your face when shooting from the prone.
In the end, the main advantage of this muzzle brake is the price. It’s ridiculously affordable. However, it keeps your AK-47 looking classic, and it offers a tad more performance than the original Russian slant muzzle brakes. So, this model is a great overall value.

3. Tapco Weapons Accessories AK-47 RAZR Muzzle Brake
- For Gun Type:
Rifle
- Fabric/Material:
Steel
- Color:
black
Pros:
- Decent recoil and muzzle rise reduction.
- Prongs turn your rifle into a decent stabbing tool.
- Good flash suppression.
- Installs quickly with an indexing pin.
- Affordable.
Cons:
- Recoil reduction and compensation could be better.
- Produces a fairly large dust signature.
The Tapco Weapons Accessories AK-47 RAZR Muzzle Brake has been around for a while, and it’s got a reputation as a decent low-cost muzzle brake.
This muzzle brake uses a unique design. There are three gas ports, and very pronounced prongs. The gas ports redirect gas to reduce recoil and muzzle rise. The prongs keep gases and muzzle flash from obscuring your point of view.
Additionally, this muzzle device makes your rifle useful as a stabbing tool in tactical operations. Though, that’s not the most ideal use for a muzzle brake.
While the design is functional and does a decent job of combating recoil and muzzle rise, there are other muzzle brakes that have better recoil reduction and compensation. But, a better muzzle brake is going to cost more.
Also, this model produces a pretty significant dust signature.
However, the long prongs mimic the function of a flash hider. So, this Tapco muzzle brake produces less muzzle flash than most other muzzle brakes.
Lastly, there’s a notch for quick installation with an indexing pin.Even though it’s not the highest performing muzzle brake on the block, it probably gives you the most recoil reduction per dollar. It’s a great muzzle device for anyone who’s working on a budget to get the most from their AK-47.

- Produces mellow muzzle blast for a muzzle brake.
- Good recoil reduction and compensation.

But, it’s compact and lightweight. It’s just 1.95 inches long, and weighs 2.4 ounces. You most likely won’t even notice any difference in weight or maneuverability once you’ve installed this brake.
It’s not perfect. But, if you want a muzzle brake that will reduce your rifle’s recoil without blasting your teammates’ faces off, this Primary Weapons muzzle brake is for you.

6. Precision Armament AK-47 M4-72 Severe Duty Brake
- Weight:
2.6 ounces
- Fabric/Material:
Stainless Steel
- Color:
Black

- Amazing recoil reduction and compensation.
- Produces almost no dust signature.
- Minimal design.
Cons:
- Produces intense concussion.
The Precision Armament AK-47 M4-72 Severe Duty Brake is designed for one thing: recoil reduction.

If you’re shooting from the prone, this muzzle brake also produces almost no dust signature. It’s a solid performer in all conditions.
Additionally, this is a pretty minimal muzzle device. It’s just 2.25 inches long, and weighs 2.6 ounces. Not the smallest or the lightest. But, it won’t cause weight or maneuverability problems.
However, there is one drawback to all this performance: the muzzle blast.
Holy smokes does this thing produce a lot of concussion. If you shoot at an outdoor range or on a range that has private bays, it’s not a huge issue. But, wear your eye and ear protection.
But, the performance makes the concussion worth it. If you want the absolute best recoil reduction, this Precision Armament model is the muzzle brake to get.
