Holographic sights are similar to red dot sights in how they feel when you aim with them. But, a holographic sight has a slight edge over a red dot because the image is holographically transposed on the target. So, you don’t have to shift your focus to focus on your holographic reticle.
There are a lot of physics involved. But, what it comes down to is that it’s possible to acquire your sight just a tad faster with a holographic sight. So, a holographic sight is a great option for those want a super fast first shot.
SPOILER: If you want a holographic sight that will help you get the fastest most accurate shots, but won’t help you get into debt, get the Holosun HS510C Solar Power Holographic Sight. It produces an incredibly crisp reticle, and the battery life is outstanding.
Some of you came here for the whole article. So, read on. We’ll show you around the world of holographic sights.

The Best Holographic Sight Reviews: Seeing is Believing
The best holographic sight will get its due first. All the other sights will be examined in order of price, from most realistically price to those with fairy tale price tags.
Here’s what we’re looking at.
1. Holosun HS510C Solar Power Holographic Sight - Overall Best Holographic Sight
Technically, the Holosun HS510C Solar Power Holographic Sight is a hybrid sight that uses both red dot and holographic technology. But, it functions almost exactly like a true holographic sight, and it’s priced lower than other holographic sights.
One of the biggest sticking points for some people is battery life. Nobody wants their optic to die while they’re shooting. This sight uses a small solar panel to reduce the load on the battery, which extends the usable battery life to 50,000 hours.
It takes one CR2032 battery. So, you can be confident that your optic will turn on when you need it. And, you won’t spend much buying new batteries.
There are three reticle options:
- 2 MOA dot.
- 65 MOA ring.
- 2 MOA dot with 65 MOA ring.
- 65 MOA ring.
So, you can set up your optic for long and short range shooting, or combine this holographic sight with a magnifier.
The hybrid design does cause a tad more parallax than a pure holographic sight. However, the parallax is nearly unnoticeable.
This sight is protected with an aluminum housing. And, it comes with an integrated quick detach mount for quick setup or removal.
Overall, the price and performance of this sight are hard to beat. Holosun might be a fairly new company. But, so far, they’ve produced super reliable sights for fast-paced tactical shooting.
2. Dagger Defense DDHB Red Dot Reflex Sight - Holographic Sight Under $50
This sight is actually a red dot. There just aren’t any decent true holographic sights in this price range. But, the Dagger Defense DDHB Red Dot Reflex Sight is designed to mimic the performance of a holographic sight.
This sight is powered by a single CR2032 battery. It’s a common battery. But, you may want to keep some extras around. The battery life of this sight is unproven.
However, you can choose between a red or green reticle. This gives you the best reticle contrast, no matter what environment you’re in.
There are also four reticle patterns:
- Single dot.
- Circle with crosshair.
So, you can use a reticle that’s best for your shooting distance and anticipated target.
Even though it’s a red dot, the parallax is minimal. Also, the red dot design makes for a thinner housing that doesn’t obstruct your field of view so much. So, it’s easier to locate new targets over and around your sight.
And, even though the housing is minimal, it’s aluminum. That gives this sight good durability and impact resistance.
Some buyers have found quality control issues with this sight. However, the customer support is outstanding, and those who received lemons usually get a free replacement.
So, if you’re not ready to drop the cash on a true holographic sight, this sight makes a great stand-in.
3. Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec Reflex Sight - Holographic Sight Under $200
The Sightmark Ultra Shot M-Spec Reflex Sight is another sight that uses LED technology to mimic the function of a holographic sight at a lower price.
This sight uses a 65 MOA circle dot reticle, with a 2 MOA dot. Even though this sight only offers one reticle, the reticle is a good all-purpose reticle that works for both long and short range shooting.
The CR123A battery provides up to 2000 hours of operation. For most shooters, that means less than one battery a year. When the battery gets low, the reticle flashes to let you know. That way, you’re never surprised by a dead battery.
And, this sight automatically turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity. But, if you move your rifle, the sight turns on again. It manages the battery for you, so you don’t have to think about it.
Even though this sight uses an LED with an achromatic lens to generate the reticle, the system is parallax adjusted to reduce the parallax. So, you get a very stable reticle at almost all distances.
Additionally, there are 10 daytime brightness settings, and 6 night vision brightness settings. So, you can use this sight anytime, with any gear.
Unfortunately, you need an allen key to zero this sight. So, the setup can be a bit inconvenient.
Despite the inconveniences, this is still a great value for an optic under $200. If you’re looking to get a decent sight on a budget, this is a great sight to buy.
4. EOTECH 512 Holographic Weapon Sight - Value Holographic Sight
EOTECH holographic sights are some of the oldest and most respected holographic sights on the market. The EOTECH 512 Holographic Weapon Sight is the current iteration of one of EOTECH’s flagship holographic sights.
First, this is a true holographic sight. So, the reticle will always be in focus when you focus on the target. It makes aiming even simpler than aiming with a red dot, which is already super simple.
The reticle itself is a 68 MOA ring with a 1 MOA dot. There are no other reticle options. But, the reticle is a solid all-purpose reticle that’s good for fast, short range shooting. And, the 1 MOA dot is small enough for longer shots. The reticle makes it easy to make quick, accurate shots at varying distances.
Also, there are 20 brightness settings for the reticle. So, you can use this holographic sight in any light conditions.
The illumination is powered by 2 AA batteries. These batteries give the sight 1000 hours of continuous run time. So, you won’t have to replace the batteries very often. And, AA batteries are super easy to get.
Also, the reticle will flash when the batteries are low.
Using AA batteries is convenient. However, it does make this sight very large. It takes up a lot of space on your top rail. So, it may not be ideal if you use several other attachments and have minimal rail space.
But, even though it’s big and kind of expensive, this is an excellent all-around holographic sight that’s perfect for any sort of short and medium range shooting.
5. EOTECH XPS2 Holographic Weapon Sight - High-End Holographic Sight
The EOTECH XPS2 Holographic Weapon Sight gives you all the benefits of a larger EOTECH holographic sight, but in a smaller form factor.
It’s a true holographic sight. And, the reticle is a 68 MOA circle with a 1 MOA dot. And, the reticle can be configured to show just the dot. So, you get the fast reticle acquisition of a holographic sight, with an all-purpose reticle that gets the job done at any range.
If you use a magnifier, the dot will not expand with magnification. So, you get the same precision. But, with a better view of your target.
There are 20 brightness settings. So, the reticle will be visible in any light.
To make this sight compact, EOTECH used a lithium 123 battery as a power source. This gives the sight 600 hours of continuous run time. It’s kind of a short running life. But, still plenty for most shooters.
The good news is that the reticle will flash when the battery is low. So, you’ll know when your battery is about to go.
Even with the semi-short battery life, this is still an excellent holographic sight that saves some space on your top rail and gives you excellent precision at all ranges.
Getting Some Clarity
Optical sights are easily the fastest and simplest sights to use. And, holographic sights are the easiest and the fastest of the optical sights. Even though they tend to be a bit pricey, you’ll appreciate how awesome a good holographic sight is.
If you want a sight that works just like a holographic sight and is available at a lower price than most holographic sights, get the Holosun HS510C Solar Power Holographic Sight. You get a ton of performance per dollar with this sight.
So, if you’re still using a plain old red dot or iron sights, it’s time to upgrade to a holographic sight. Your shot groups will thank you.
