The Best Suppressor Cover: Cover That Heat Wave

Last Updated on January 6, 2023.

Have you ever seen that waver coming off of the blacktop during a hot summer day? That’s heat mirage.

The same thing comes off your suppressor after a few strings of fire. And it can obscure your view of the target, especially if you’re using a magnified optic.

Also, when your suppressor is hot enough to cause heat mirage, it’s almost always too hot to touch.

Does a Suppressor Reduce Recoil

A suppressor cover covers (shameless dad joke) both of these problems. It’s much easier to shoot well with a suppressor cover. And it makes using a suppressor much more convenient, because you can take your suppressor off without a glove. And the suppressor cover keeps your suppressor from melting or burning anything it touches.

The Sub-Tac Alpha Suppressor Cover isn’t the least expensive suppressor cover out there. However, it’s got a really great price-to-performance ratio, which is why it’s so good.

Looking cool might not be the most important thing, but it matters. And this suppressor cover looks cool. This model comes with a paracord wrap that helps keep the cover in place and adds a bit of tactical flare to your setup.

You can also use this suppressor cover without the paracord wrap, if you want. It comes with velcro straps. Choose your own aesthetic.

But it also does it’s job. This suppressor is rated for up to 1800 degrees.

It’s not quite heat resistant enough for full-auto fire or repeated mag dumping. But for normal semi-automatic shooting, it will hold up just fine.

Lastly, this suppressor cover is made of a durable cordura canvas type fabric. It’s similar to the material that you might find on a flak jacket or plate carrier. And it holds up well.

However, it’s a synthetic fabric. So, if you get your suppressor too hot, it’s going to melt the lining and the outer fabric.

But, as long as you let your can cool down after a few reps, this suppressor cover will keep the heat mirage down and keep your hands safe when you’re shooting suppressed.

2. Col-Tac LLC Metal Python Suppressor Cover

Pros:

  • 1800 temperature rating is fine for most ordinary shooting contexts.
  • Velcro straps use locking metal buckles to keep this cover secure under recoil.
  • 1000 denier cordura is thick and durable.

Cons:

  • Both the fabric and fireproof lining are synthetic and will melt if you overheat this cover.

The Col-Tac LLC Metal Python Suppressor Cover is definitely the best suppressor cover for those who need to cover their suppressor for the fewest dollars.

It’s rated to 1800 degrees, which will work for most semi-automatic and bolt-action shooting, as long as you’re not doing repeated mag dumps.

This cover secures with velcro straps, which are sewn to the fabric of the cover. And the straps have locking metal bucklesThe buckles keep the cover from loosening and sliding off your suppressor while you’re shooting.

The fabric of the cover itself is 1000 denier cordura, which is nice and durable.

However, the fabric and the fireproof lining are both synthetic. If you overheat this Col-Tac suppressor cover, it will melt to your suppressor. And it’s very difficult to remove (ask me how I know).

But, if you use it for controlled shooting, it will hold up just fine. And, the price makes this suppressor cover a great deal for casual and bolt gun shooters.

3. Armageddon Mac Bros Black Suppressor Cover

Pros:

  • Extremely well-crafted.
  • Elastic drawcord enables you to customize the fit.
  • Fireproof lining won’t melt to your suppressor if you overheat it (but don’t overheat it).

Cons:

  • Not rated for full-auto shooting or mag dumping.

The Armageddon Mac Bros Black Suppressor Cover has ridiculously high construction quality. You can tell these suppressor covers are handcrafted. They occasionally come with wax pencil marks on them from the manufacturing process.

The design is very well thought out. The exterior is a type of nylon cordura fabric. And there’s an elastic cord which you can pull to customize the fit to your suppressor so it won’t slip. And it secures with velcro, as well.

It’s a really nice looking suppressor cover overall. And you can tell that it’s built to last.

However, the fireproof lining is non-synthetic. So it won’t melt too badly if you overheat it. But you can still ruin this suppressor cover if you get it too hot.

This Armageddon suppressor cover is designed to fit Mac Bros suppressors. However, it will fit any suppressor with a 1.5 inch diameter, up to 9.75 inches long. Or you can get the 6.5 inch version if you have a shorter suppressor.

The only trouble with this suppressor cover is that the manufacturer doesn’t specify the heat tolerance. However, it’s not rated for fully-automatic firearms. So the heat rating is likely around 1800 degrees.

But, for bolt-action and controlled semi-automatic shooting, this suppressor cover works just fine. And it’s a remarkably well constructed suppressor cover for the money.

Best High Temp

4. SilencerCo Standard High Temperature Suppressor Cover

Key Specs:

  • Material:

Nylon

  • Dimensions

7.5 in length

  • For use with:

Octane 45, Saker 762, Specwar 762, Harvester, Hybrid Suppressor

Pros:

  • Very well constructed. No plastic.
  • Fits most suppressors with a 1.5 inch diameter.
  • High-temperature rated for more intense shooting.

Cons:

  • Not rated for full-auto fire or mag dumping.

The SilencerCo Standard High Temperature Suppressor Cover is exactly what the name states: it’s a standard, no frills suppressor cover that’s high temperature rated.

It looks pretty plain. It’s held in place with standard velcro straps. However, the buckles are metal to help with durability and heat tolerance.

The fabric is the normal 1000 denier cordura, which is as durable as you’d expect from a suppressor in this price range.

It’s designed to fit all of the SilencerCo 7.5-inch suppressors. But it will also fit just about any other suppressor with a 1.5 inch diameter or close to it.

The most notable thing about this suppressor cover is that it’s high temperature rated, which means it’s probably rated to higher than 1800 degrees. But it’s still not safe for full-auto shooting. Stick with controlled semi-automatic fire.

However, if you do overheat this SilencerCo suppressor, it won’t foul your suppressor too badly.

It’s nothing fancy. But this suppressor is a cost-efficient option for those who want a cover that’s capable of handling a bit more heat for more intense shooting.

5. Rifles Only MAD 8.5” Suppressor Cover

Key Specs:

  • Material rating:

3000 F

  • Length:

8.5″

  • Diameter

1.3-1.75″

Pros:

  • Fits most suppressors that are 8.5 inches or longer.
  • Secures with velcro and a handy drawcord that enables you to customize the fit.
  • Looks cool.

Cons:

  • Not full-auto rated.
  • Internal lining will melt to your suppressor badly if you overheat this cover.

The Rifles Only MAD 8.5” Suppressor Cover is the best option for anyone who wants an AR-15 suppressor cover that can handle tactical shooting and training.

First, this Rifles Only suppressor cover is rated to 3000 degrees. Can you still overheat it? Yes. But it will hold up through much higher volumes of rapid fire than most other suppressor covers. So it’s a good option for semi-automatic battle rifles and DMRs.

Also, this cover fits a fairly broad range of suppressors. It fits any suppressor with a diameter of 1.5 to 1.75 inches, which covers most suppressors on the market.

It also comes with a cool drawcord system that helps you customize the fit and ensure that your suppressor won’t rattle loose while you’re shooting lots of rounds.

The outer jacket is the normal nylon cordura. However, the fireproof lining is a rubber-type compound. The 3000 degree rating is real. But, if you overheat this suppressor, be prepared to scrub some melted goo off your can.

However, this is probably the most affordable suppressor cover that’s rated to 3000 degrees. So, if you want a cover for your tactical battle rifle, this is an excellent option.

6. Magpul Suppressor Cover

Key Specs:

  • Fabric/Material:

Metal

  • Length:

5.5 in

  • Weight:

9.6 oz

Pros:

  • Clamps onto your suppressor for a ridiculously secure lockup.
  • Durable enough for sustained rapid fire.
  • Ideal for compact suppressors.

Cons:

  • Only fits suppressors with a 1.5 inch diameter.
  • Polymer sleeve may get too hot to handle without a glove.

Magpul claims that the Magpul Suppressor Cover is capable of holding up to sustained semi-automatic fire.

How does this work? Well this suppressor cover is actually a metal heat shield with a polymer insulator. The inside of this suppressor cover is metal. So it’s unlikely that you’d get this suppressor cover hot enough to melt the internal heat shield.

However, the polymer does have its limits. Pushing this suppressor beyond 3000 degrees is not recommended. But the heat tolerance of this suppressor is impressively highIt’s a good option if you want to do a lot of semi-auto shooting with your suppressor cover on.

This suppressor cover also uses an incredibly secure attachment mechanism. The internal metal sleeve clamps around your suppressor. So this sucker isn’t coming off when you don’t want it to.

There are a couple downsides to this design, though.

This only fits suppressors with a 1.5 inch diameter. Metal just isn’t that adjustable.

It also gets hotter than cloth or fabric suppressors. It mitigates heat mirage. But the suppressor cover itself might get too hot to hold without a glove.

Lastly, this suppressor cover is best for compact suppressors. It’s only 5.5 inches long. If your suppressor protrudes more than a couple inches beyond the suppressor cover, it will still give off some heat mirage.

Magpul plans on making this suppressor cover in other sizes soon. So look out for that.

But, if you want an innovative suppressor cover for a compact suppressor, this is a good option. It’s got better heat tolerance than most other suppressors on the market. So you can really go all out with this cover on your suppressor.

7. Burn Proof Gear Suppressor Cover

Pros:

  • Made entirely of fire resistant material that won’t melt if you overheat it.
  • Incredibly high heat tolerance is great for sustained fire.
  • Machine washable.

Cons:

  • Expensive.

The Burn Proof Gear Suppressor Cover is an excellent suppressor cover for anyone with a painted or camouflage rifle. It’s got a very unique look that would go well with a ghillie suit.

However, it’s not all about looking cool. This suppressor cover is also made entirely of fire retardant material. So nothing on this suppressor cover will melt if you overheat it.

But be careful. This suppressor cover can look totally fine, but it will be too hot to touch. So watch out when you remove your suppressor after a lot of shooting.

And completely fire retardant construction means that the heat tolerance is impressively high. So you can put a lot of rounds down range pretty quickly without exceeding the limits of this cover.

Since it’s mostly cloth material, it’s very lightweight. And it’s machine washable. So maintenance is no issue.

However, it only fits suppressors with a 1.5 inch diameter. There’s not a lot of adjustment range. You can get away with a smaller suppressor. But fatter suppressors will be an issue.

But that’s really the only downside (besides the price). This Burn Proof Gear suppressor looks rad. And it’s got incredible heat tolerance and heat mirage management.

It may not seem like a big deal. But, when your target is barely larger than your sight, heat mirage really messes with your shooting. And suppressors get hot surprisingly fast. So a suppressor cover makes it easier to shoot and safer to pack up when you’re done.
